How Far In Advance to Book Your Flight?

Just some of my musings on airfares to Aruba...

The fares for our flight next June became available in the beginning of August.

We booked three weeks later when the fare had gone down from $1260 to $615.

Now two weeks later the fare is back up to $962.

We booked the fare at $615 feeling it was a reasonable price.

Will the fare go back down? I hope so. If it does not, we have a ticket price we can live with.

I think booking your flights is a better understanding of value!

If you have the experience... as many do here.... you know at about what price you should book the ticket. All things being the way they are.... I think $615 is not bad at all. Matter of fact....congratulations! You also know that you are going back to Aruba for your next trip!

The flying saga of ever changing rates will continue for the coming months if not years!! Actually.... we have caused this ourselves, meaning the consumer

Let it Ride...

Thumbs up Great Airfare sale tracker

Helpful hint. Try the website yapta.com. It will e-mail you when a great deal comes along. I booked flights two months ago for October, the ticket price has increased over $170 per person. Yapta saved me money!! Hope it can do the same for you.

ArubaLisa,
We go in November every year and I start checking prices around February when I get my maintenance fee bill for our timeshare. I try to use Frequent Flyer miles for one ticket and pay for another. I watch and when I can get a ticket for $500 or less, I jump in it. My girlfriend was lucky 2x and got tickets on a spur of the moment for $310 and $290....pretty much impossible unless you happen to be on the airlines website when they have a couple of seats available at a discounted price. With the price of fuel up, I don't know if I will ever see such a great price again, but a few weeks ago prices with tax were still around 510, so I guess what I' saying is that it is the luck of the draw !!!! Buy a ticket today at what looks like a great price and see it $100 cheaper a week later.....

Aruba, my home away from home !!

This year (I'll be leaving 11/15 from Dallas, TX), I paid $475 using all of my VISA points that I've accumulated. I typically use credit card points for this trip and have paid a mere $250 co-pay along with my points. This year, not so lucky! BUT, very happy!

Peace, Joy & Laughter to you! Maria ...

I start monitoring prices in August for our annual March trip. As Lisa indicated, this year prices started out extremely high bording on the ridiculous. I did book in late Sept at a price very close to our Mar 2008 ticket price. Since Sept, there has been a momentary dip and then an offsetting rise a few days later.

It's like investing, I'm happy with my price and not looking back over my shoulder.

Gosh!

I just took a look again at the fares for our dates and the fare is STILL $962.30.

All I can say is if folks see a sale, think long and hard about grabbing your tickets, if the price is fair, like Snidely said, "it is like investing."
