The IMPORTANCE of allowing 3 hours @ Airport

I cannot reiterate enough the importance of allowing the 3 hours that the airport and the airlines recommend.
(and i am one of the offenders...traveling on weekdays and sometimes allowing only 2 hrs.)

In the posting below, these people DID make it to their flight.
    They were lucky.

From one of the Aruba Facebook pages:
"What a nightmare!!! When leaving Aruba On Wednesdays in the past , we leave ourselves 2 -21/2 hrs to check in and always end up waiting for a long time to. board. This Wednesday I got an X on my passport check. Therefore was sent on the longest line ever "the X line". We were frantic it was 20 min to 3 and no sight of reaching the front......................"

Does anyone know what an "X on my passport check" means or what the "X-line" is? Was cocaine involved?

We departed yesterday and arrived at the airport a little of 2 hours prior to departure. The Aruba side was quick, 15 minutes for everything. US Customs took longer, about 30 minutes, so not to bad all in all. Some people were complaining about an hour wait on the US side. It's hard to understand why US Customs has so many departure windows that seem to be empty every time we go through.

Because the US government has plenty of money to build things, but no money to pay people to man them. The current hiring freeze affects every government position. If it was a matter of not having enough people interested, I would have already applied for the job.

    I figured it was ecstasy.

Also if your boarding pass as SSSS,that means an extra security screening. Jon got that one last time. I will never understand cutting it too close at the airport mainly because my husband will never let me do that. But we have definitely been in line with lots of people who are stressing out about missing their flight and i wonder if that extra hour at the beach is just not worth it to me

We've been debating what to do. I'm waiting for Jet Blue's prices to come down a bit - hopefully. Right now the direct home leaves at 12:46 pm which means being at the airport at 9:46 basically killing a whole day. There is a connecting flight that leaves at 4:41 pm meaning we'd have to leave for the airport at 1:45 using the 3 hour rule. We're coming home on Thursday and have Friday and the weekend to recoup from the late arrival home. And it would mean breakfast, a little beach, lunch and maybe a few cocktails before we leave. That 3 hour thing is rough, but I get it. We hit major lines one year at the US Customs.

I'd probably go with the connection of it meant another morning on the beach, but I know a lot of people hate the connection. It does make a long travel day, especially with the 3 hours at the airport.
