We changed flights last Sunday to get home.

We had received an email from JB on Thursday warning that the storm could effect flights on the weekend and telling us we could rebook for free. We were on the 5:30PM flight to Boston and switched to the 2:19 flight. We got out and home on time but the 5:30 flight was cancelled. Whew!

We just got home Friday night (actually, it was Sat. morning). We were coming to Va. by way of Dulles, so we had no weather delays, but did have to sit on the plane in Aruba for two hours when a passenger became ill right when we were next in line for take off. I thought we were going to miss our connection, but that flight was also delayed and we just made it. Other passengers were running to their gates, with flights that were supposed to be taking off right when we arrived. The first week that we were at Costa Linda (week 5) we learned that a lot of people from Boston couldn't get out the Friday before, and had been stuck in Aruba until the following Thursday. That's not a bad place to be stuck, as long as you can find a place to stay. We talked to people who were leaving for Boston last Wed., right after another storm was hitting. We offered them a place to stay with us if they couldn't get out, but they made it. You just never know this time of year. We got stuck in Aruba last year and stayed an extra three glorious days. Six years ago, our flight to Aruba was canceled and we missed the first three days of our vacation. Traveling is so iffy this time of year, but it is so worth it!

Hats off to you for your generous offer of accommodations.

When the possibility of our flight being cancelled was raised, we were bombarded with offers of accommodations if needed. Though we didn't need them, it was a good feeling that we are surrounded by generous and caring people.

We offered to share our condo with strangers who were stranded two years ago. They were pretty blown away by our offer, and we still email and keep in touch. It ended up that some other people weren't able to come down because their flight was canceled, so this couple got to stay in their unit. We try to help others out when we can.
