Gaby I think your worries at this early date are a non issue. Come October I suspect it will also be the same.

US pre-clearance actually draws visitors to Aruba. Check out customs upon arrival into MIA, ATL, DFW, etc... forget making your connection because you have to claim your luggage and wait for hours and then reenter US TSA to access the terminal. AUA is a breeze compared to arriving into the USA from other foreign destinations.

I've always arrived at AUA 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 hours prior to departure, and always, without exception, had at least an hour and a half to spare. Always mid week and always the 4:40pm flight to JFK.

I always do 2 hr 45 mins - 3 hrs. Never came even close to missing my duty free shopping or missing a flight. BUT - I have had a lot of LONG lines and stressful days at that airport. You need to be patient and just go with the flow.

When we left on 6/29, we left extra time due to it being a Sat. At the airport the line for United was out the door at the terminal. Since we checked in at first class,a little bit of a wait, but the line really started as so as you got through Aruba custums, and the hallway was packed. There was a sign hanging from the ceiling where you pick up your bags, saying something about not being allowed through until a certain time for your flight, but US Customs remindered me of the lines at Disneyland, back and forth. I usually leave mid week and return on Sat, I'll be returning now on Mon in the future. Lets see what happens next month when we go back down, 4 weeks to go.....

We cut short our visit over Christmas and New Years and are coming home two nights earlier than we would have liked to avoid the Saturday departure. We know that day will be like a zoo leaving Aruba after the holidays. Figured Friday would not have been much better so are leaving Thursday. Arrival the Saturday before Christmas will be chaotic as well but that is a subject for a different day.

We are flying home Sunday January 5, 2014... Already dreading it!

But... I rather stay a few extra days and suffer for a few hours.

We almost always fly home mid-week to avoid the weekend lines at the airport. But last Sept, we did have to fly home on a Saturday (due to husband's work schedule) and I dreaded it. But to my surprise, since it was low season, it really was not that bad. However, mid-week is still our preference. We'll be going again in Nov. - flying in on a Friday and back home on a Tuesday (11 day trip). Flew the exact same days this past April and it was a breeze.

I remember once around 2006 - was flying home with girlfriends on a Saturday in April. We gave it the usual 3 hours but it was barely enough time. We ended up almost running to our flight once we were in the gate area and only had a few minutes to spare. We used every bit of that 3 hours we gave ourselves (and there was NO shopping/stopping along the way either - we knew it was going to be close.)
