Make Sure You Lock Your Luggage When Leaving Aruba

We had two new t-shirts in one bag and three in another bag. One t-shirt was missing from each bag. I, unfortunately, did not lock the suitcases which was stupid on my part. Won't happen again! Obviously stolen at the airport!

Unhappy Sorry to hear this happened

Fortunately we have used TSA locks since they were first implemented. Once in awhile we receive a "love letter" from TSA saying they opened our bags and we have not been robbed.

For anyone not familiar with them http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/baggage-locks

"TSA screens every passenger's baggage before it is placed on an airplane. While our technology allows us to electronically screen bags, there are times when we need to physically inspect a piece of luggage. TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. These locks are available at airports and travel stores nationwide. The packaging on the locks indicates whether they can be opened by TSA."

Important to remember though you cannot just use any old lock. Do an internet search for "tsa locks" and there are a number of them.

Wow, that's sad. I never lock my luggage because I figure if TSA wants to check it they'll just cut them off. All I do is wrap twisty types through the pulls so they don't fall open them handling.

we too have received notification from the TSA saying they have checked thru our bags.
we choose not to use the tsa approved locks and just leave our bags unlocked.

sorry to hear of the loss of the shirts.
NOT at all stupid on your part!

Haven't locked ours for 8/9 years since the TSA had cut the flimsy locks to check the bags.... now I need to rethink this and get some TSA locks. Haven't lost anything yet.

I've been using TSA locks since they came out also. I don't know if it's because of the locks, but I've only gotten the TSA note a couple of times, and that was on international travel (not Aruba though). Maybe they see the TSA locks and think there is less chance you are carrying anything dangerous? Bottom line is the locks only keep the honest folks honest. A thief will get into the bags in any event if they want to. Sorry to hear about your loss, kinda dampens the mood on a day that is pretty tough on all of us (leaving Aruba).

First off, thank you for letting me know about the TSA locks. I am getting them, they have them at Amazon ( of course, they have everything at Amazon ). However, I was thinking of putting the following letter in each of the two suitcases.

    GOOD MORNING

    To the TSA:
Enclosed you will find numerous towels, tote bags, cake cutter, sashes, water bottles and various other things necessary for the tables, chairs and arch for the ceremony. The reason being there is a wedding on Oct 4th at the Radisson in Aruba for my husband’s daughter. These are all necessary. Thank you for not making a mess.

    To any Potential Thief:
As listed above, we would appreciate it if you would steal from someone else’s suitcase. These things, though pointless to some, are necessary for the wedding. I would appreciate not having a Bride in tears three days before her wedding. There are no items in this bag or our other bag eligible for resale value. Thank you for your cooperation….

I thought the TSA would laugh and maybe any potential thief would have a conscience, lol......
