    Missed flights

One of our members mentioned missing his flight to Aruba. Anyone else had this terrible experience? How did you handle it? I think I might melt down over such a thing.

Ugh...no!! <<knocking on every piece of wood in the vicinity>> We're psychotic about setting multiple alarms to wake us up! If we ever missed that flight because of our own doing, it would be Meltdown Time.

We've had some pretty close calls on the flight not getting out though (usually because of weather). That just calls for a few rounds of the rosary, a chicken foot voodoo dance or two and a gallon of vodka.

"Smirnoff?!? What is this? Air Hell...?!?"

I don't usually sleep at all the night before our flight to AUA so no worries about waking up!

Due to a combination of excitement and a bit of anxiety it's very hard for me to sleep the night before a flight to Aruba, especially if the flight is an early morning one. If the flight is in the early afternoon then no problem there. The closest I've ever come to missing a flight was on the way back from Aruba. My flight from Aruba to Curacao had been cancelled due to technical problems with the aircraft, I was put on a DAE flight to Curacao which by the time it landed gave me a thirty-five minute window to catch my connecting flight back to Trinidad with Suriname Airways. Missing that flight would mean I would have to wait till Tuesday for a flight. Thankfully the folks at the airport were made aware that there were passengers on board the arriving flight that had to catch some connecting flights. A rep from the airport was in the terminal with out boarding passes which allowed us to go through the Transit Area and catch the flight with ten minutes to spare. You have no lived till you have had to run down the departure area to the boarding gate with your passport and ticket clenched in your teeth, on hand holding your backpack and the other holding up your jeans because your belt is still in your backpack.

we have never missed a flight going to aruba.
we did miss one coming home a number of years ago. (yup we slept in)
thank goodness american airlines was good about it and we paid 0 penalty or fees.

we also missed a flight to quebec city many years ago.
we got stuck in traffic in boston (big dig) and by the time we checked in at Logan, they had closed off the flight.
again, the airline was awesome and did not penalize us $.

I'm like you Jacki, I don't sleep the night before either. Usually because I'm excited about the trip and also nervous about missing the flight. Thankfully we usually have a 6 am flight out of Toronto and the past 3 trips we've left on the day the clocks move forward so it's to the airport at 2 am.

We've never missed a flight-we stay near the airport, set alarms and I keep waking up checking the time. However; we have missed connecting flights due the late arrival of the first flight. So far, we have always been put on a later flight.

We had a different issue a few years ago that could have been worse than missing a flight. We had exchanged out timeshare for one along the Costa Del Sol in Spain. A friend of ours who is a travel agent also put together a group cruise going out of Venice. Since they were back to back weeks, we did both. We were going to leave Spain a day early and spend the night in Venice because we didn't want to have any flight issues. She booked us on an regional(?) airline from Malaga, Spain to Venice. Less than a week before we were leaving for Spain, I decided to check the luggage policies on the flight from Spain to Italy only to find that it had gone bankrupt earlier in the year and shut down-the travel agent was never notified. I didn't panic-I checked to see if there were any other flights and there were so then I emailed our travel agent who was already in Italy and she took care of the booking and getting us credit from her booking company. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had not checked about the luggage and we just showed up in Malaga to find out that the airline was no longer operating.

Close call..... Sure there was some anxiety 'til you got your new flight booked.

I would lose my mind if I slept through my flight...it would be ugly and I would be screaming so loud the cops would not even need to be called as they would hear me 2 miles away. We set multiple alarms but I too don't typically sleep well the night prior to leaving so I am often awake prior to the alarm going off.
