To the New Jersey People out there!

To the NJ people. What do you fly and where out of? We have flown out of JFK the past couple trips. I have to get my flights for NEXT JULY! Yes we are going back to Aruba! We are giving the Occidental a try this time.

I have been looking at prices for Continental, but they are not out yet, but the end of June are running about $500 per person.

Not sure what Jet Blue will be, but will take a while to get those prices.

If we go out of Newark, we don't have to leave home as early, and the tolls are not even close to the amount of JFK, and the car service will be cheaper!

Not sure if I should just jump on Continental at $500 a person (x4) when they are available.

I am not going to go near American at this point, too nervous that they will cancel the flights.

Do you guys also book your air yourself or through an agent?

Imo, just wait for Continental to have a fare sale. With all the competion in the NYC metro area for flights to Aruba, there are plenty of sales and prices are competitive.

Sign up for one of the fare watchers like http://www.sidestep.com/

You can set it up to monitor NYC and/or EWR, LGA, JFK & PHL and email you a summary each morning. It will give you a breakdown of lowest fare by airline.

No, wait for a fare sale. Tickets even in the best of economies go on sale at least twice a year. Now, much more often. Set up the airfare monitor and just check your email daily. It is much easier than chasing website to website. You will also see the difference in price between a nonstop from EWR on CO vs. say connecting through Atlanta on Delta.

Yapta.com you can receive an email when those fares drop.

I was looking at the end of June earlier today - $338 + tax.

Imo, you can get tickets for $375 - $425 including tax, if you wait for a blow out sale. IOW, one airline goes on sale and the others all match. $450 if you don't like living dangerously.
For the lottery-- Pick 6 ...9/11/13/17/20/25

LOL Lisa!!!!

I wish that Continental would refund if the price goes down and re-book for free like Jet Blue. But they charge $150 to rebook, that is ridiculous!!!!!

At $338 per ticket, the 4 tickets I need would be under $2000. So that is $425 a ticket. And I want to get good seats.

I have never booked airfare myself before. When I was looking there were certain seats that are marked "preferred or something like that". Anyone know what that means? I won't be able to get them. THey are the ones in the front of the plane. I do have a Continental One Pass membership, but not many points....

They are for the premium members of the frequent flier program. Those who don't qualify for an upgrade, but still qualify for a special "perq".

No need to be the first off the plane, you'll still have to wait for the luggage. The luggage comes off the plane slower in Aruba than a lot of other destinations so we never mind sitting further back in the plane.

If you are worried about seating, then go ahead and book the seats when they become available. Like Chadd, a member here, told me when I was looking for Christmas airfare, decide what price you are comfortable with and if you see it grab it. I think if you go with that process, in your own mind, you will at least think you will have gotten a fair deal.
