    New years

Was looking at flight prices for new years trip and the fares were double. Do they come down the closer you get?

Sometimes, sometimes not. We spent NYE in Aruba a couple of years ago. Booked our flights the first week of Nov. and got a fare of $640 which was decent for that time of year. It went back up 2 days after we booked and never went down again. As always, it's just a matter of checking often and getting lucky.

Christmas/New Years is the peak for Aruba travel. You can wait until about 8 weeks prior but I would sign up for a fare alert in case there is a sale that does not have black out dates for your days of travel.

One year we booked September for Christmas/New Years and another we booked about June for Christmas. From Atlanta these fares were $1200 and $850 respectively. Right now for this year, fares seem to be about $1100.

For comparison, this year, the fare for July was about $450. By the difference in price, you can see the "peak fare" concept at Christmas.

On the other hand, if you want to chance it and wait, the seats may be gone by the time you are ready to book. Imo, it is a crap shoot. SO
keep an eye on the number of seats still available on the flights. The less seats available, the higher the price will be, and that is regardless of a sale or not. The first flights to sell out first will be December 26 and 27. I looked real quick and there are no discounted economy class seats still available from ATL on Delta on the 26th.

What will effect the price, is: if it is a non- stop, or multi- stops...I just booked my tickets last month for N ew Year weeks...was Lucky enough: $640 , from NYC, non- stop...Delta..Same tickets now- $ 932,,, go figure?

Sorry worldtravelerm I beg to differ. We always fly non-stop out of Atlanta to Aruba and we have friends and family who have had cheaper fares flying through Atlanta from various "home" airports.

That is exactly right, ArubaLisa...most of the time, connecting flights are less expensive....

    holiday flights

Hello All! I thought I'd share what I found. Just booked a Christmas holiday trip to Aruba and found a great deal on airfare. Granted, we fly to Aruba on Christmas eve, but we will be on the island by dinner! Our return flight is New Year's day, but not until 4:50. RT price from PIT to AUA, $492.40 on Airtran!!!! $1970 for the four of us is agreat deal, cheaper than last year!!

The kids don't mind that we're flying on the actual holiday. Now, only need to apologize to the grandmas that we'll miss the Christmas hoopla.
