After what we went through last year, I am livid at the suggestion that we may have to put up with the BS of a strike again; there were times that I feared for the safety of my family.

$2600 for airfare; $1200 for timeshare fees; $3000+ meals etc for two weeks and I'm supposed to put up with strikers again? Even the suggestion that it MAY happen is enough to make me start thinking about other options for 2010 (we typically buy tickets 330 days in advance....in May).

It's too late to change my 2009 plans but, believe me, I would if I could.

We started going as a family of 4 and after 12 years now travel in a group that approaches 30. We've done our part for the Aruban economy.....but, we can change that. There are lots of other places to go. Hello Interval timeshare trading!

Michelle and the rest of the forum, the reason I suggested contacting ATA is to let them know how we feel as tourists spending our hard earned $$$$ on their island. Why is God's name would we go to there to be aggravated by a strike. We drop as of family, group, etc. probably around $30,000( flight, time share fees, food, entertainment, taxes, tips)in April. WHo needs to pay to be scared??????
Expect that we will take a hard core approach and attitude to this situation as we have a trip coming up in 10 weeks. Maybe this will be our last trip there, who knows? cindyo

Hi Cindyo,
Can you elaborate on what transpired last year to make you so scared?

Also, from reading your posts, I can't imagine you not returning to Aruba!!

Oh no cindyo say it aint so
I have a feeling a lot of people are thinking the same thing. Still love the little island but I feel so bad for those effected even those who want the 25% raise. Do you think we could get them part of the stimulus package

Remember Andrea....we travel with 20-30 people every year. Our individual family budget for two weeks is $6000-$7000 for 4 persons....

$2600 air
$1200 timeshare
$3000 (at $250/day) meals, shopping, etc.

No sympathy...NONE....for people who deliberately ruin family vacations.

If I wanted a 25% raise.....and threatened to hide your luggage for 3-4 days if I didn't get one, would you be sympathetic for me?
