    really dumb question.

We are taking our first flight out of the U.S to Aruba on 3/29/14 from Detriot int. stopping in Charlotte changing planes then off to this wonderful island we have heard (read) so much of called Aruba. (119 days to go but whos counting. So damn cold here 19*f) Oh yeah to the question- Will we need to retrieve our bags and re check them in again in Charlotte or will the airline try not to looses them for us and put them on the second plane. We have never had to do this plane switch thing so its all new to us.

    Thank you

Most likely your bags will be checked thru to Aruba when you check in in Detroit. You can always ask at the desk at check in but I am almost certian that they will be checked all the way to Aruba. . .

    exactly as tom says.
you check your bags in detroit and you'll pick them up in the luggage room at the airport in aruba.
reminder..bring a carry on with important items..prescriptions, jewelry, money, electronic devices such as tablets, phones, cameras etc... keep that kind of stuff out of your checked luggage.

there was a story on the news last night of a woman whose luggage went missing on a flight.
she got to her destination but her checked luggage was missing.
eventually her luggage was delivered to her ( i dont know how many days passed) and some of the stuff in the bag was not even hers and the stuff that was hers had been distrubed, some of it turned inside out, and some of it worn by someone else..........dirty clothes in the bag.
sometimes our luggage has its own adventure

Same thing will apply on your return. Your bags and you will clear US customs/immigration before you leave Aruba. Your bags will be checked all the way back to Detroit. Have fun, enjoy Aruba and ask lots of questions here. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Thank you again for every ones help. We are so excited. As much as we like cruising the thought of staying in one place taking in the culture, the views, and just relaxing is much more appealing to us now. We have been to many different countries (cruising) but never had the chance to really soak them up. We thought what better place to do it. Aruba, a place we have wanted to go for years and have heard so much about.

so glad that you are finally getting to do your "aruba trip."
i like cruising...like most everything about it...except so many activities and feeling like i am on a schedule.
but i love land based aruba trips.
    there is no comparison chalk:cheese.

and a bathing suit & sunscreen! Make sure you have one in your carry on - can you imagine how terrible it would be to finally get to paradise and not be able to run right to the water?

One thing to remember on the return trip. You will check your bags at departure in Aruba but will then go through security and U S customs and then pick up your bags again and put them on a conveyor belt yourself.

Cruising is like a Tapas platter --- you get a little taste. Going somewhere and staying is like a 5 course meal. You take your time and really enjoy it all. I much prefer a full 5 course meal. I have done 3 cruises and have regret it each time!
