Which side of plane to see the island upon approach?

After years of dreaming and wishing, finally returning to Aruba for the 3rd time in July. Just my son and me this time, to celebrate his High School Graduation and 18th birthday. This will be his 3rd time too.

Before our previous visits I was very active on these boards and learned so many great things about what to do and where to go. Also learned the island is much more than a vacation spot for many, and we were definately bitten by that bug that makes us keep going back....

We want to see that wonderful island from the plane as we approach, and I remember that there is one side of the plane to see it, and one where you can't.
Can anyone tell me which side to sit on for the best view upon approach?
    Thanks!

In my experience it is usually the left hand side of the plane that gets the view of the beaches and island when coming in for the landing.

Welcome back to the BB and I hope you and your son have a fantastic vacation.

    kudos to your son!

    LEFT side seats ABC

    disclosure

weather conditions are a big determining factor on landing. so be aware, that in certain weather conditions the approach and landing are made from the other direction.

Seat "A" if the winds are on your side.

You will first see the Lighthouse, Highrise area, Lowrise area, the Harbour and town, then the terminal.

Thank you Andrea! Just to clarify - Left as you sit in the plane and face the pilot or Left as you face the plane from the outside??

    Welcome to the forum.

YES, left side...Make sure your seat is NOT over the wing.

Ahead of the wing is preferable but those seats are more difficult to obtain. Back of the plane works well. You have to wait for your luggage anyway.

I agree with the above... every time we have ever approached... sitting on the left side of the plane gives you a great view!

I'll throw in some basic stuff that nobody probably cares about but was interesting when I learned it years ago.
Wind direction determines runway (direction) selection, as aircraft will generally land into the wind to reduces the length of runway needed. Normally you will land on runway 11 (110 degree heading). The wind would have to be more than 90 degrees off of that heading before they change to landing runway 29 (same physical runway, opposite heading).
If you go to this site: http://aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/ and use TNCA (US airports at Kxxx) as the airport code, click the TAF (forecast) box and the "translated" button, you will get any major changes predicted for the next 24 hours or so.
