The website may not yet be up to speed for AUA destinations. I could not find flights out of Newark, JFK or LGA. I went to the interactive page and clicked on Aruba to see the routes - it showed LGA, but when i selecteted LGA-AUA it said
Southwest Airlines currently does not offer service between (New York - LGA) and (Aruba - AUA). Please choose another origination/destination or visit the Southwest Airlines interactive route mapfor alternate choices.

I went back and re-read their announcement. To get to Aruba you must depart from

    Atlanta
    Baltimore/Washington
    Orlando (Saturday only)

If you go to their interactive map http://www.southwest.com/flight/routemap_dyn.html you can see if your "home" airport (like Boston in the example above) has direct connections into either Atlanta, Baltimore or Orlando.

The map will show both Southwest and Air Tran flights.

The problem is with SW itineraries. SW flies from Tulsa to Atlanta but doesn't arrive in ATL before the Aruba Flight leaves. Its the same from almost every airport they fly out of. They need to add a later flight at around 1pm. This would allow flights from places like TUL, STL, DAL to connect to the ATL/AUA flights. I cant get to ATL on SW before 11 am nor can most other cities. Doesn't make sense not to have a departure time that would include most of your airports. Also need to adjust return flights to accommodate same.

Southwest Should Improve Seating Arrangements Before Going International

I would have some doubts about flying SW.
They do make a great point. I regularly see problems with families on airlines that offer assigned seating. Adding in self assigned seating certainly creates another potential source for conflict.

That is why I have a tough time wrapping my brain around SW's modified cattle car boarding.

It is bad enough on Delta where everyone has an assigned seat and has to be the first person on the airplane.

Yesterday I purchased 4 one way tickets to Aruba in July out of Baltimore on Southwest. The total cost was roughly $900. It is a nonstop flight. I am waiting for them to extend their schedule to purchase the return flights. Baltimore is about a 3 hour drive from my home but we will likely do a park and fly stay at a nearby hotel the night before our departure. When I was pricing flights out of Newark or Philadelphia for my dates, I was encountering fares around $700 per person round trip (or higher). Before the day was done, I also confirmed an airport pickup with Bully.

Southwest extended its schedule today into September. I purchased our return flight home on August 23. Again I got 4 nonstop tickets for under $900 total to Baltimore.
