Waiting to book does not always work

My experience in waiting to book Jet Blue from Boston in August direct flight back fired. Back in January it was in the High $500s for rt, so kept on waiting and waiting they start to rise when ready to book now they are in the mid $700s...shopped and shopped around and even with one stop high $600s.
What to do wanted to go direct but will do a 1 stop as long as i get to ARuba before 2pm...a friend in the travel industry told me to check one way flights on different air lines...well it worked and I get to leave from Providence 25 minutes from home instead of Boston over 1 hour plus paying a van to take us.
So we booked USAIR with a stop in Charlotte arriving at 1:35 in Aruba, return on Airtran connect in Balitmore to Southwest getting into PVD at 8pm... Price $608. RT....
So if you are finding high prices on same airline start shopping for one way fares, it saved us some $$$...

Good job! Really wish we were closer to Providence... but still stuck on the Jet Blue from Logan. Booked in Jan... again high 500s and just had to change the departure day and got a 285 hickey pp! At least we're still going!

Not sure if the policy at Jet Blue has changed, but it's been my experience, they will give you a credit multiple times when fares go down. I believe you have to had booked directly with them though.

I received credits several time on tickets I bought last fall for a trip in January. I buy tickets directly from JB.

Another tip on Jet Blue: For your best opportunity to earn flight credit if the airfare drops, purchase your flights as 2 one-way trips (one reservation for your outgoing flight and a separate reservation for your return trip). That way, if either price drops you can earn the credit. (If you booked a roundtrip flight under a single reservation, then sometimes one leg drops in price whereas the other increases so you don't have an opportunity to earn credit for the Round Trip reservation).

In my experience with JB, when I call for a credit, they look at each of the two flights separately, not the R/T total.

Correct JB looks at the departing and returning flights separately. From my recent trip this April I have almost 700$ in JB credits to use on next years flight. You must book directly with them and make sure you check daily at the fares its worth it!

Love JB. I always book the first day the flights open for my timeframe. I then register the flight on Yapta.com. I get weekly updates on the price of my flight. When it goes down any amount, I call JB and get the credit with JB. Last year it went down 3 times, this year just once but it was a substantial amount. You can use Yapta for all airlines but they all have different policies. JB has the best and we fly with them each year so it really works for us.
