    Smile arrival at airport

when we go to aruba, we will be flying back on a monday. our flight leaves aruba at 4:00 pm. we do not have to check luggage and will be printing our boarding pass prior to arriving at the airport. how much time should we allow ourselves for a monday departure in december.

    thanks, gaby

3 hours is what is always recommended.
that being said, a monday and with the carry on only and online check in, i would say an hr and a half or 2 hrs.

but remember, your airline will recommend 3 hrs prior.

The past 4 trips we have flown on Mondays - both ways - and it's been a breeze. One year it was a little backed up, but we still made it in plenty of time. We allow 2 hours on a Monday and are usually sitting at the gate for awhile. We decided to add a couple of days on for our next trip in March and are arriving on a Tuesday and leaving on a Thursday. I would imagine Thursday would be ok too, but we are leaving little extra time just in case.

Unless things have changed you cannot use a preprinted boarding pass. You MUST check in at your airline's desk. I had checked this for someone coming from Curacao and then boarding in Aruba. I was in Aruba and called the airport and that is what they told me. They said the guy that checks at the door MIGHT let him but he isn't supposed to so......

we had a printed boarding pass in december of 2010 and it was okay. did they change that this year? when i was at the airport, i asked the woman in aruba if i had to wait in line. we had carry on luggage and a printed boarding pass i printed at an internet cafe. she said no, if i had a printed boarding pass & carry on that i could go right through but i didn't have the customs card. so she went to the front of the line and got us two of them.

    Printed Boarding Pass

Despite your having a pre-printed boarding pass and carryon luggage, you still have to check in at your airline counter, even on a Monday. If you were departing Aruba on a weekend with the many extra flights then during the week, I highly suggest that an Aruba traveler arrive at the airport minimum of 2 hours before the flight as there is airline counter check-in, two Aruba security checkpoints, gathering up your luggage in the luggage room and going through United States Customs and United States Security before going to your gate.
