Looking real quick, it appears Delta is only flying a full schedule out of Atlanta through the end of July. They cut down 2 Saturday flights to just one beginning in April.

There is no Delta service from Atlanta on Tues. and Wed. August onward.

    October they begin flying again
Wednesday through Monday with no service on Tuesday.

November they resume service 7 days a week and two Saturday flights restart on November 9.

    adding more planes

There are only so many time slots available into a specific airport. So, the idea of putting an extra plane on if capacity is filling up is impossible. This is why you now see airlines like Jet Blue, Air Tran and Spirit and less American. They lost some of their time slots.

Many times in a merger one airline will buy the other just for the slots it will open up for them in a certain market.

Just take this as an FYI

Amy what days do you usually fly?

We fly to Aruba twice a year (late April/early May and also in Sept.) on Delta. We never book the April/May trip until around Jan/Feb. and usually don't book the Sept. trip until around May. That's when the fares seem to drop for us anyway. We usually pay around $450-$480/person on Delta every year (MSP-ATL-AUA.)

I just checked our flexible dates for April/May and it's running about $595 right now. But again, too early for me to book - the fares always come down within the next couple of months.

Amy what days do you usually fly on? I also fly out of MSP and usually pay close to $600 a ticket! Where do you book through?

We fly on whatever day has the lowest fare. Seriously though, we try to be very flexible with our dates but usually find the lowest fares flying on Sundays or midweek. We always fly Delta because we're Medallion members and like to rack up more frequent flyer miles. I always book directly through Delta's website. Only time we've ever paid close to $600/ticket was the time we went to Aruba for NYE and paid $650 (but we knew the fare would be high because of the time of year so we were willing to pay more.)

There are very few slot restricted airports in the US. The real reason you see more Air Tran and Spirit is that the flights to caribbean islands are mostly filled with leisure travelers who are more price sensitive than passengers on business. Airlines will deploy their aircraft where they will generate the most profit and that is rarely on purely leisure routes.

I gave up and spent a bit more than i wanted to... There was a small price drop on the 6/29 - 7/6 EWR-AUA flights. For a small windown from 4am - 10am the price dropped from $831 down to $690 and I jumped on it. This is the most I have spent on flights to Aruba since New Year's 2010.

Oh well - its just $$$

Fares just went down out of MSP for April. USAir is around $448 and Delta is around $520 but you need to be flexible with your dates. Some other airlines (AirTran) are under $500 as well. We will probably go with Delta since we usually get free first class upgrades with them so it's worth it for us to pay a little more.

We usually go to to Aruba in Sept. as well and book our flights around late May or June for the best fares. Again, no need to pay anything around $600 out of MSP as long as you're diligent in fare watching.

We are around 90 days out and still seeing prices high. I was hoping we could wait but it sounds like we will need to book these soon....??

When should we book for June? Should I book now or wait?
