Bringing in DOGS to Aruba

I will be moving to Aruba for a two year work assignment this summer. I will be bringing my two dogs with me and have been trying to find the "official" regulations, but everything I find is different from what I found before. For example, one place says that they have to have a exam within 5 days, while others say 14. I also found one site that states that the Aruban Govt must review the vet certificate before arriving with the pet, but I have not seen that anywere else. Does anyone have any recent experience with bringing dogs to Aruba from the U.S.?
My dogs will be too big to bring in the cabin.

bringing dogs

I bring my dog to Aruba all the time from the US. I have a home in Aruba and we are on the Island several times a year. Yes, you do need a vet certificate and proof of rabies vaccine. I get this from my vet the week before I travel. When you arrive in Aruba, you present the info to the customs agents just before you exit the airport. Never have had a problem. If you have other specific questions, feel free to send me a private message through this forum.

When we brought our dog here we were required to get her chipped.
I don't know if they enforce that anymore but here is a site I found
that says the requirements from the USDA:

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/regulation...oads/aw_cn.pdf

Basically everything Cheryl said

Certificate of health not older than 10 days
Rabies certificate

But this also says chipped.

Cheryl - does this look right to you?

Whoa! Good info for a traveling dog! I'm finding that the price of a plane ticket for the pampered pooch is cheaper than the cost of kenneling with our veterinarian!

There are too many dogs in Aruba now. Adopt a local one instead.

Just sayin'....

dan the original poster is talking about bringing his/her 2 dogs with them to aruba......
as opposed to being on aruba and shipping in a dog or 2.

the title of the thread made me think the same thing...... get one already on the island.

i think i will change the thread title
sometimes my brilliance is beyond belief

I thought he was referring to bringing the family dog as well! If moving, I guess I couldn't imagine abandoning the beloved one, especially when those of us who are childless treat the little ones (or medium-sized ones) like our children!

I think the person is saying he's coming to Aruba with his dogs but they will have to fly in the Cargo area because of the size of the dog.

That being said, please check with your airline about the requirements for flying dogs
in cargo. I know there is a high/low temperature rule about where you are flying to and
leaving from because the cargo cabins are not temperature controlled. I believe you can
rent carriers from the airlines.

PS Andrea you ARE brilliant - never doubted it for a minute!
