My friend lives in Aruba and I am going to visit him next week. He has asked if I can buy a blackberry for him and bring it to him, as they are much cheaper in the states than in Aruba. I guess he basically wants to put his Setar sim card into it and use it.

Has anyone ever done this? Don't you need to have the phones 'unlocked' or something, and will the stores in the states do this for you?

you can go to best buy or even walmart and buy an UNlocked Blackberry.

you may be able to find a very inexpensive one on ebay .

The price of unlocked Blackberrys is cheaper in the USA and all you need to do is buy a quadband, unlocked Blackberry and he should be able to put a Setars card in it. But asking you to "just buy him a Blackberry" is like asking you to buy him a Ford; theres a big difference between a Ford Focus and a Ford Taurus. I's suggest you ask him what model he'd like.

for example, i had a blackberry curve it did not have a sim card and it could not be unlocked. so as jdoll suggests, find out which blackberry your friend wants.
