FAQ's: Jobs/Moving/Living/Business in Aruba

Relocation to Aruba
http://www.arubachamber.com/business-in-aruba/relocating-to-aruba
"Non-Arubans wanting to relocate to Aruba will need a residency permit. In general, requests for work permits will only be taken into consideration if submitted through a local employer, who has to accept full responsibility for any possible expenses to be incurred by the government related to its employees.

Granting of a work permit isonly subject to no local qualified staff available for the position. Without a valid permit, you are not allowed to start working and risk being expelled.
This permit is obtainable at the Department of Immigration (Dimas). For a trainee position or internship a special work permit is required.

The request for the residence or work permit must be submitted personally or by an appointed representative at the Department of Immigration (Dimas). Contact the Department through www.dimasaruba.com for more information."
Establishing a business in Aruba
http://www.arubachamber.com/business...iness-in-aruba

8. As a non-Aruban, can I establish a company in Aruba?
Non-Arubans usually need a local partner who owns 60% of the shares to start a business in Aruba, some exceptions are applicable.

Aruban in this case means someone born in Aruba with the Dutch nationality or someone who is considered local. People who are considered local in this case mean:

a Dutch national, born outside Aruba but who has been residing at least five years in Aruba and is in the possession of an "admission permit for an indefinite period of time" or “a statement of admission by Rechtswege”;

a Dutch national of whom at least one parent was born in Aruba, no matter how long he/she has been residing in Aruba;

a Dutch national who has been married to an Aruban for at least one year and has been residing in Aruba for at least three years;

a Dutch national who is married to an Aruban for at least three years and has been residing in Aruba for at least one year;

a local person can also be someone, not born in Aruba and not having the Dutch nationality but who has been residing in Aruba for ten years or more, and is in the possession of an “admission permit for an indefinite period of time” or “a statement of admission by operation of the law” (van rechtswege);

or someone not born in Aruba and not having the Dutch nationality but who has been married to an Aruban for at least five years and has been residing in Aruba for at least three years.

Helpful Tips for Entrepreneurs
http://www.arubachamber.com/business...-entrepreneurs
"Permits to Establish a Business:
As an Aruban you do not need a permit to establish a business in Aruba, when it concerns a sole proprietorship. You still need to register your business in the Commercial Register at the Chamber. If you are not an Aruban born Dutch national, you always need a permit to establish a business. Whether you will receive a permit depends on what sort of business you intend to start. The main criteria are if the business provides enlargement of the economic basis and if it is capital intensive."

If you stay here longer than 6 months - be sure to include "income" and AZV (socialized medical) taxes....

A LOT of people didn't know about that one !!! Have the information (I think) but that topic isn't very clear at all! Also DIMAS (residency) requirements seem to change every year -

Hi, ArubaLisa,
It's Dr. Steve again.
I have read a lot about whether or not one can move to Aruba and open up a business in Aruba. Whom do I talk to to get exact answers. I am a chiropractor of 15 years experience and would like to move with my family to Aruba. I would like to be able to help not only locals but visitors to the island with neck and back trouble. We are serious but need further direction on how to proceed. anyone out there that can help, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dr. Steve
