I think I hear wedding bells my friend. Because getting a job
here is extremely hard. You also have language requirements -
3 or 4 languages - even just working in the tourist trade.

You might ask the international school for the name of their
    attorney to give you advise.

It's hard to get residency in most countries (US included)
    think about it...

Actually he has a 'leg' up on everyone else because his
girlfriend is getting sponsored and a working permit
that is taken care of the company she is working for.
He just has to marry her to come here. But might
have to have 'house husband' status!

I must admit after living here and seeing what's required.
I shudder to think what kinds of hoops you have to jump
thru to be a 'resident' of the US.

I'm sure the US makes Aruba look like 'child's games'!! LOL!

Nope 6 months on island and then flying off does not work these days.
The Airport has software that tracks the amount of days you are here.
    So nix that idea.....

So if we do get married, what would I have to do to be able to be down there for the 19 months? I was under the impression that I could only stay for the 6 months?

6 months out of the year requires no residency application.
After that you have to file. Like I said before - talk to the
school - they will either give you the name of someone to
    talk to or the information.

I know a lot about residency but every case is different and I
would not pretend to even tell you what you have to do
in case i'm wrong. Even if someone gives you specifics here -
talk to an expert in Aruba!!

The boards can give you general information but your specifics
requires someone on island who is processing your gf's papers
who would be able to tell you what you have to do to come with her.

I know couples who had to get married in order to stay here. One
I know got married the night before they left.

You are wrong.......also if you are married you cannot be sure to have your residency permit.
As already written in this forum in 2007 my wife had the working permit (cpa and auditor for one of the big 4) but dimas did not released my residency permit ( the company filed the papers not me). At least not in 180 days...... so we had to leave anyway also if married (unless you want to stay 180 days without your wife)
    Be careful..........
