Social Security/ Va Mortgage

I was told by a friend that you cannot live in Aruba and collect Social Security from the US. Also that you cannot use you Va Mortgage availability outside of the US. Although I have a good 401K I was hoping to include both on a move to Aruba ..

Re: Social Security/ Va Mortgage

OK being in the Mortgage Business I know you cannot get a VA mortgage for property outside US.
Now on your SS you can collect it but they take out a % if you are not a permanent resdient of US .... suggestions keep a PO Box in US and a US BANK checking account with direct deposit and your all set!

Re: Social Security/ Va Mortgage

We got a home equity line for our purchase in Aruba. Were in VA and used HSBC.

Best of luck.

The United States mortgage lending institutions will not loan money to individuals for the purposes of buying a home on foreign soil. Individuals must obtain a loan through a mortgage lending institution in the country they wish to buy in.
American home owners have the advantage of the U.S. tax write off. This is when the Internal Revenue Service will make deductions on the mortgage interest of the primary home and the second home for up to one million dollars, no matter where in the world the second home is located. As long as all requirements are met for the primary and second residences, this is true.
