I have one, also, and couldn't figure it out until I found a video on the pacsafe website. This forum won't let me post a link, so you'll have to go to the website & search for travelsafe 100.

There's a bead that is attached on the wire cable...feel for it along the top seam...that has to be pulled all the way through the hole to latchthrough the purple piece.
I felt the same way and really thought it was a rip off. I called the customer service person and she explained it to me...Voila!!!

It is very stiff the first couple of times, but then it gets much easier to pull it through after that.

After watching the video, I'm wondering how easy it would be to cut the cable and take the whole thing????

True but I think someone walking the beach or pool area with wire cutters may be a bit more obvious??? I would hope. Plus I plan on putting it inside another beach bag...and locking the whole thing up jusst for my nook

The bead is not supposed to move it is attached to the cable....pull the opposite way. If you look at the youtube link..it gives a good demonstration, except it will be a little stiff when it's new. Pull the bead through the bigger hole of the purple latch and then slide it over.
