    Question phone service

Hi! We usually rent a phone at airport from Setar because AT&T rates are ridiculous in Aruba. Although Setar can get expensive as well since we will be there almost three weeks (cannot wait)! Someone just suggested a Magic Jack? Does anyone know if these work in Aruba? I don't know anything about them but will investigate - short on time though since we leave in six days! Don't want to chat too much and want to disconnect for most of trip, but sometimes you need the phone! Thanks for any and all help here! Susan~

    A big Skype fan here.
Aruba where the toughest question each day is "where to dine tonight".

if you are not going to bring your laptop, magic jack and skype are not an option.

if you are looking for a phone rental i would suggest fastphonearuba.com
one of our members is the proprietor (charles croes aka caribbean-tattler)

or you could BUY a cell phone from setar or digicel for about $60 -80 and load it with enough minutes to last you a few wks.

Today alone I received 3 mails regarding cell phone rental. I have a cell pone rental company, however our visitors deserve a fair down the middle answer to the questions I got. Here they are.

Where do we turn in the phone when we leave? - Most of the rental companies have one of two options. 1 - leave it at the front desk and they pick it up or 2 - they will come on your day of departure to pick it ups.

"We have a small tablet and can skype with it as sending messages." True, the main reason for renting no longer has anything to do with services made available. It is all about not exposing your valuable equipment to sand or beach water. Those two elements are the biggest killers of cell phones. Hotel pools is number three.

Is the price really .24 per minute? No, that is incorrect, however it is the only SAFE price we can advertise. Fact of the matter is that during most stays the phone companies run specials and it brings the cost much lower.

    I hope that helped

Magic Jack works perfectly from Aruba - or buy a cheap $30 GSM unlocked phone from Overstock.com and get a $30 sim card from Setar or Digicel and you are set.

Madame Janettes, Rumba's, Driftwood, El Goucho, Marina Parata all for dining. So many places. I love the shopping in town as well as shopping by the Highrises. I go in & out of all the hotels.

Skype is best way. Costs pennies to make a call home. You can even Skype in some of the new I pods just need headphones with a mike in it.
