It will be 5 years smoke free for me this Sept. did it cold turkey!! Had a medical scare which did it for me. Thank God all is well and turned out good for me. I may be a few pounds heavier but at least my health is overall better.
Keep up the good work.

it's been 10 month's for me..woke up one morning and said to myself this is the day..went cold turkey..went to a pub 2 days later because i figured i'd find out if i could be without smoking right away instead of waiting a month and then that month would be wasted if all i did was light up when i was in there..had no urges didn't feel the need to light up..now it's been 10 months and don't even think about smoking at all..now trying to get my beautiful wife to quit..that's even harder because she doesn't have the will power..but i no longer buy her cigarettes at the store..if she wants them she'll have to get them herself..i'm not helping her smoke..i'm trying to help her quit..when i talk to someone who smokes i now know what i used to smell like right after a smoke..more power to all who have given up the nicotine habit..

Cool

I have been taking Chantix off and on since July of last year. I never quit, just cut down to a few a day... Last Tuesday I woke up and said hmmm... I am not smoking today. Then on Friday I took a couple of puffs(my first in 3 days) from my son in laws cigarette and it was horrible. My problem is if I have a long drive and traffic is stupid. Today we drove to Columbus to get our bearings on the airport up there. We are flying out on the 26th and never flown out of Columbus so I had a cigarette when we started driving.. I had one on the way home.. I still think it's better than a pack and a half a day. I think I am done now though... I want to start running again and am not one of those crazy people who can distance run and smoke.

i was doing well smoke free this past vacation til i got stressed out from a call from our contractor. 1st thing i did was bought cigarettes even before i told paul of the contractor's problem with our new roof. how stupid is that?!

so here i go again. no smokes for me til i get stressed or freaked.
i hate it. but, on i go and will try again. heck, and i was doing so well. andrea

Cecile, keep up the good work, when I quit smoking the car was NOT my friend.

Very soon, chewing gum, preferably sugar free bubble gum, become my best friend.

It took me a good number of years to be able to get into a car and drive even to the corner, without popping a piece of gum. After all I had conditioned myself to light up a cigarette before I even backed the car out the driveway.

That too passed and I still carry gum in my purse, but it IS probably time to buy a new pack, they usually go stale before dd remembers I always carry it.

Cold turkey is the way to go! I tried to quit so many times...when this pack is empty..on Monday....etc. Never lasted more than a few days. Then one morning I woke up and said I'm going to quit today. Had almost a whole CARTON of cigs in the cupboard, and left them there for months! That was 8 yrs. ago! The car was a trouble spot, but my hardest thing was sitting at the kitchen table in the am and drinking my coffee without my cig. I stopped drinking coffee for several months. I drink it now but not near as much as I used too.
At $5 a pack now, I'm so glad I quit! If I still smoked we wouldn't be able to afford our trips to Aruba!!!
Congrats to all who have kicked the habit!
My advice to those who haven't....you have to seriously WANT to quit!
Good Luck

Yes! Congrats to all of you who have quit! I have my brother to thank for getting my dad to quit after 40+ years of smoking. Right before my niece was born (she is my parents' only grandchild), my brother said to my dad, "You know you won't be allowed to smoke around the baby, right?" That was it. The week she was born, my dad quit cold turkey and has not touched a cigarette since. It's been 4 years!

Congrats!!! I quit about 12 years ago and understand what you're going through. Tried one a couple of years ago and have no idea why I ever started, it tasted awful .....

I did the laser therapy on 9/1/06 and have not had any desire since that time. So I guess it works. One thing that I did when I quit was to throw $30 a week into a jar (I stopped several months ago) just so that I could see "reward" for quitting. That helped me alot.

Anyways, the laser did work well, never had any withdrawl symptons at all.

Good luck to you.

I quit 6 months ago today using chantix for the first 2 months. The hardest part as others have said was the car, but here's how I fixed that! Take a bic ball-point pen and take the pen part out so all you have left is the plastic tube. I'd act like I was smoking with it, flick it out the window here and there etc etc just to keep my hands busy. Worked like a charm!
