Tip of the day, luggage scales

Before you get to the airlines and check in your luggage, buy one of those hand held scales to weigh your own luggage. Its much easier to handle moving a few pairs of shoes from one suitcase to another, than trying to do it at the airline desk. I speak from experience....being a few ounces over on one piece of luggage can cost you. Also, you can do it at advanceat your hotel before you depart to return home.

We got an analog scale from Target's ($9.99). It is simular to the one pictured . We used it in Feb. & it worked very well.

What are the weight restrictions? 50lbs per bag? Does it vary by airline?

It varies by airline, most if not all though I belive are about 50 pounds per bag. Some airlines are now also limited the number of bags to 1 with a surcharge for additional bags...United and US Air are among those charging for extra bags.
Airlines want you to pack less — or pay more

You are very welcome Bill!

Speaking from experience, with the holidays coming up this makes a great GIFT!

FWIW, with our mode of travel over Thanksgiving we will be using our scale, but for Christmas our mode of travel still has NO RESTRICTIONS!

Last year, our bags weighed 49, 49, 49 and 48 pounds as we left Aruba. Our scale paid for itself that day..... 50 lbs would have cost $$$$

Hmmmmm, I just got out the bathroom scale because I thought one of my bags was heavier than 50#, but it only weighed about 45. I come really close but have never gone over, although there is always a first time. May invest in one of those.
Where do I get one ????
