She said textiles are REALLY expensive because nothing is made locally (i.e. everything is imported). So getting a "local" fabric might not be possible given that there's no textile industry to speak of.
i went on a yarn hunt in aruba during one visit.
i had made an afghan for the son of a friend.
after awhile the child had made a hole in it and i need to repair it.
i was unable to find any yarn at any store.

I will admit I do not know anything about needing fabric but having said that, perhaps if you see a gorgeous pareo made in Aruba or the islands, you could purchase that and use it for the fabric. I bought a beautiful hand sewn with flowers one there for like $10. I mean I wear it as a pareo & sometimes as a skirt w/slip. but its technically just a rectangle piece of fabric.
Oh God no I never expected to find fabric from Aruba..... No textile mills there
perhaps looking for Egyptian cottons, etc from Holland, things they import that I couldn't get my hands on at home.
