The exchange rate at the supermarket is just about the same as everywhere else. The rates fluctuate 1 or 2% depending where you go. I always feel the exchange rate at the gas stations are a bit high.
Ling and Sons receipt is pretty good -- it shows you both USD and AWG and the conversion rate.

I can't seem to find where I may have read that (or totally misunderstood it) - most searches I looked up say "The official rate at which banks accept US dollar banknotes is Awg. 1,77 and checks at Awg. 1,78. The rate of exchange granted by shops and hotels ranges from Awg. 1,75 to Awg. 1,80 per US dollar."

We had stopped at Super Food, and I was impressed with the angus cert beef they had there, if I had a time share or home, this where I would buy my neat from. There was a few items that had to be bought at at Ling's. The store was very clean, I'll deal with the parking issue there, and shop there again if I have too.
Update on Superfood: Loved the new shop by AM, convenient walk and carried my favorite 7 Year old Havana Club Rum
