Has anyone shopped at Price Smart
Hi All,
I am headed to Aruba in June. There are 8 of us and I was wondering if I woulds save any money shopping at Price Smart as opposed to Lings. Does anyone know if you have to join the membership club for one time shopping? Anyone shopped there? |

I have a purchased a few things at PriceSmart. Not much though. I don't compare prices but I would think that the prices are a savings over Ling & Sons. You do not need to be a member. But you will have to pay 15% (or 10%) on the total if not a member. You have to get a day pass at the Customer Service desk (the desk is to the right when you go in the door).

Just like any of those 'bulk stores' you need to kinda know your prices.
But it is good for people staying a while on the island and needing to stock up on things. It's not 'stocked' with the variety of stuff you find in the states. And if you find it there once does not mean you will find it again!

We shopped there the other day. If you are using a credit card to pay, they ask you to get a one day pass at the desk. If you don't have a membership, you will pay 10% above the prices posted. If you are doing a lot of shopping, it migh be better to get a membership which is $31.00 to join, then you don't have to pay the 10%. The day pass is free and is just a way that the club checks your ID before you get to the register.

I love Pricemart, living here it saves me some money. Its 31.00 American for a 2 card 1 year pass, or you can get a day pass but pay 10% more at check out. Its up to you but unless you plan on doing a lot of cooking or wanting a box of something I would just stay with Lings if your visiting.

probably is a little less expensive, but if you get a 1 day pass, you will lose a good part of that discount for the "privilege" of the one day pass.
imo, it is such a small amount of $$ it is not worth the trip to Price Mart |

just found out that pricesmart is a publicly traded company based out of the USA. they only have caribbean locations. the founder xxx Price was the pioneer of the club subscription based discount stores in the 50's or 60's. they sold their store to costco and then founded pricesmart.
