Here's The Scoop On The New Mall Being Built Across From The Holiday Inn ...

Here's the scoop from the Aruba Times reported last October ...

PALM BEACH-"Paseo Herencia" (Heritage Passage) is the name of the
attractively designed enormous shopping mall presently under
construction on the terrain opposite the Holliday Inn Hotel and the Playa
Linda Beach Resort. Designed by the local architects Dan Oduber and
Denise Oduber-Louvera, this gem will certainly captivate the attention of
many. The complex draws inspiration from traditional Aruban elements of
décor, delivering a tropical, colonial, open-air ambiance and feel.

The mall will have a 90 foot tall ornamental bell tower that will serve as a
landmark for the complex. The tower will have an eight foot clock and is
to include a bell. Behind the complex a three-story parking garage will be
constructed accommodating 320 cars.

The mall will be a luxurious treat for shoppers providing 60 semi upscale
stores that include retail brands such as Maggy's, Colombian Emeralds
International, Aruba Aloe, Kenro Jewelers, Javaruba Batik Fashions and
Kok Optica. "A taste of Belgium" is another store to be opened at the mall
spoiling those that enjoy the fine taste of Belgian chocolate. A few
restaurants have already signed in including the popular T.G.I. Friday's,
Aruba Joe's, Thank God it's Friday, a popular trendy eatery from
Venezuela, a yet to be named seafood restaurant and a steakhouse
restaurant.

When night falls Paseo Herencia will be a bustling nightlife venue
entertaining tourists particularly in the high-rise area as well as locals. The
mall will include a jazz club and a six-theatre cinema complex. A radio
station will broadcast live from the glass encased studio at the mall. The
two-story plaza will wrap around a beautiful fountain pool with “waltzing
water,” a Las Vegas-style extravagance of water, music, and color
exclusively contracted with Paseo Herencia.

Heritage Development Company NV is determined to make Paseo
Herencia a true reflection of contemporary Aruba, with special organized
cultural and entertainment events. The mall will open in July of 2006!

Check out drawings of the new Mall.

How "Americanized" can they get...we can go to any of those restaurants here in the States- why would we want to go to them in the Carribean....like Tony Roma's?? Not that their not okay places..but their Fast Food Restaurants...granted there are some people that prefer that kind of dining..but the best thing (besides beach and the people) are the great restaurants...what a shame....don't they remember when they opened the "Outback" a few years ago...did NOT make it....We have been going to Aruba for 20 yrs...way before the High Rises and we only had One Casino- then the Golden Arches arrived and that was the beginning of the end.....please, please stop trying to be like the States...they'll be no need to travel to Aruba anymore...

Why don't they just leave Aruba alone? If I wanted to shop at malls I would stay home and do it.

I agree. The apeal of Aruba is its simplicity, peacefulness and being the antithesis of what keeps me from going to Myrtle Beach, Ocean City, Rehobath Beach, etc., that is over-development,and noisy, inconsiderate people.

We are leaving in about two weeks, and it seems that just as we are leaving, something new gets added later in the year that becomes very popular. Last year, at this time, it was Bingo restaurant, which opened months after we left. We will be sure to visit it this year.

If there are cultural and entertainment events scheduled in the mall plaza, it might turn out to be a great meeting place.

I am sure the devopers have done their research on the location, and needs assessments for the appropriate venues that will attract people to visit and enjoy the shops and attractions.

Sometimes, change is good, if it provides better opportunities for people for jobs, and for visitors who will patronize it and grow the economy.

I had also tried to open the pictures and no luck. It would be fun to see them.

Also I agree on having American style restaurants isn't the best idea. I don't think Americans and tourists from other countries go to Aruba to have American Restaurants be featured.

Nothing better than Brisas del Mar and the fresh fish of the day and the other Aruban restaurants, like Tulips etc. You get more of the peaceful feel of Aruba by eating at the Aruban restaurants.

Bingo's and Pincho's are on our list for 2006.
