How far...?

I was wondering how far the closest supermarket was from the Tamarijn? Is it in walking distance or would we have to get a cab? I figure we won't need to go there often since we are in an all-inclusive, but we may want to get some snacks or drinks for our room.

Also, is there a lot of shopping in the area of the Tam or would we have to take a cab to do some light shopping? (gifts & Aruba-themed memorabilia, like shot glasses, magnets, etc...)

ETA: This probably could have gone into the "Shopping" thread ... sorry about that!

From the Tamarijn it is very easy to get to the supermarkets.

If you do not feel like walking the entire way, take the golf cart to the end of the resort and then it is simply a matter of crossing the road and you will see the first supermarket, Super Food, cater-corner, from where you are standing. On the map you can see the locations of the other surrounding markets.

For souvenir shopping, there is the flea market
http://www.aruba.com/forum/tags/flea%20market.html on the weekends. Depending upon how much you like to walk, you can use one of the Tamarijn's bicycle to get to the flea market or downtown Oranjestad. It is an easy bus ride to Oranjestad. Some will walk the distance, but be mindful of the extreme heat.

There is also a very nice gift shop at the Tamarijn, the Juggling Fish, as well as a Sundries shop which carries everything from sunscreen to souvenirs to beach toys. Aruba Aloe products though will be cheaper at the supermarket than they are at the sundries shop.

Another hint, staying at the Tamarijn, if you like the Aruba Aloe products and did not want to use the Tamarijn's "all in one" shampoo and conditioner, I usually just buy the shampoo and conditioner when we arrive and take home whatever we have not used. That is in addition to our other Aruba Aloe purchases.
