I read in one description today that there is some sort of shopping area 500-700 meters (more or less) from the Riu. Do you know what this area is (and the name)?

Karen,

There is the Paseo Herencia Mall which is to the north of the RIU. There are also a number of shops, small kiosks selling jewelry and things along the way to the Paseo. A few photos of the Paseo are on my blog.
