Where to buy live bait?

Does anyone know where we can purchase live fishing bait on the island? And any input or advice on surf fishing would be helpful. Thanks

Honestly there is not a lot of info out there regarding surfishing in Aruba. I did a quick search and the only worthwhile things I found were:

Tightline, the way you'll get live bait is try to approach those local fishermen anywhere along the coast arround the island. Upon your request they can bring in live bait for you. Every day further north of the Marriott there are a few locals who catches bait along the Malmok shore. Try it with them. If you go to one of the Marine Equipment stores they'll charge you an arm and a leg for it if you are lucky they have in stock. You may also try asking at Zee Rover, which is located after Brisas Del Mar.

For turf fishing you'll need to keep in mind the sea current will bring the line back to you. Therefore the local tie a balloon to the line with no weight to the line. That'll take the line far out to sea. Once out there you wait for a bite or real it slowly in. Some large fish have been caught this way. This method is mostly done on the south side of the island.

On the northern side of the island where its quite rocky with rough waters, you'll be facing the ocean. Here you can not make use of the balloon method, but instead you'll have to put weights to your line in order for it to reach bottom. If no sufficient weight is put on the line it'll have difficulty reaching bottom and the sea current will drag it or wash it back onto the rocks on shore.

For rentals you can ask at any of the Marine Supply Stores on the island if they have such service. That I remember I haven't seen any rentals. Maybe someone else may have more info on this.

Hi, my husband visited ling and sons and bought a package of frozen squid. He cut it up and had a very successful time fishing. He even brought his own telescopic fishing rod and fished off renaissance island pier.

Down side to surf fishing

I was snorkeling a long the rocks west of the Malmuk bus stop and was really dissapointing with the amount of fishing line in the water. Every 3 to 5 feet it seemed there was a glob of line. Some of the line also had broken ballons still attached. There has to be a better way to fish and I'm sure the ballon waste is not good for the sea turtles or larger fish.

I totally agree with NJ Mike. From my understanding is that the Government of Aruba has already passed a law prohibiting spear-fishing. Hopefully they can pass a law that may better regulate this practice.
