I was in Riveria Maya, Mexico. The hotel next ours was a smaller Botique type that had recently closed. There was a little beach bar in front, so I assume they may have just been there to sit under while having your drink? They were the only 3 palapas on that section of the beach - it was kind of odd!

Coolers and beverages are encouraged. There are trash receptacles usually nearby to throw away your non recyclables.Beer is expensive on the island but is ALOT more resonable to pack a cooler

I was in Tru Value at Certified the other day. They had lots of beach stuff. I wasn't looking for a cooler, but I'd guess they probably have some.
