Andrea - great idea for a Taxi thread . . . our experience has been pretty good. Our adult children (the boys) tend to use the taxi service from the highrise area to TDS and there is typically a flat rate service so we have not had any issues. this will certainly be a great information piece for those who have not been to the island and a reminder to many . . . thanks.

I had to email Bully the taxi guy a second time and ever since he has been on the money! Quick responses and detail oriented. He seems so efficient.

My question in regards to waiting time and waiting fees is what time would they start. ie: if my flight lands at 3pm, I know I'm prob not gonna get out of the airport before 3:30 with baggage. Would I tell him at 3:30 pick up time or do you give him your flight info and he arrives when he thinks is good?

Also, If Bully is not available, are there other vans there too or are most other cabs just cars. It's gonna be 4 adults with luggage, don't wanna take two cabs.

You give Bully your flight information-- airline, flight number and scheduled time of arrival. He will check the "live" arrival time on his iPad (?). He will know when your flight has landed or if it is delayed or early.

You will not be charged a "waiting" fee if your flight is late. Been there done that . The first time we used him our flight was 40 minutes late and then our luggage was the last off the plane. We were just about the only people left. We walked out of Aruba Customs and there he was with a sign with our name on it, smiling brightly!

Lightbulb My 2 cents and just that much

Tips for anyone, in any service industry, are always at the discretion of the customer providing the gratuity.

Gratuities have traditionally been paid for services rendered, of course, as we have discussed in other threads in this forum, it does vary by culture.

Having said that, Emily Post Etiquette suggests...

Taxi driver: Varies depending on locality. Assume 15% will be enough; an extra $1 to $2 for help with bags.

In my life's experiences tipping guides are just that, "guides". It is a personal decision on how much to tip based upon the service you felt you received.

The reply will be from Amador Lacle, Bully's "real" name.
