Does anyone know what this runs? We are debating renting a car from our hotel so we don't need to pay the airport tax. We hear it is outrageous at 11%. Has anyone had any experience with this?

PS Are the cab fares regulated?

We just got back on Saturday and the airport tax is 11.2%. Taxi prices are regulated by the government and they are per ride not how many passengers are in the car.

I was told that taxi from airport to the Tamarijn is $17, and that is total - not per person. I don't think I'd rent a car unless I was planning on using it several times. My upcoming trip will be my first visit to Aruba, so I'm no expert.

we did taxis once and swore off as never again.

paul and i always chose to rent a car .

neither of us can bear the thought of being without wheels.

maybe once we are retired and on more of a fixed income, we will have different thoughts on the expenditure of a car rental.....but for now, we love the convenience of a rental car.

it is nice to be able to take off early in the morning to get fresh rolls at "la deelizia"
to run to lings to get wine and cheese when we run out
to run up to the lighthouse on the spur of the moment for a sunset
to get lost and boy we do get lost
to go up for the rosary at alto vista

and on and on why we like to have the car.

We took a cab from the airport to the Tam. It cost us $17.00. We then rented a car from Thrifty car rental. They delivered it to the Tam, and when we departed we dropped it off at the airport. We did this in December..... Have a great vaction.

Additional to the fare, there is a charge for each piece of luggage > 1 per person. The charge is $2 per bag.

If there are two of you and you're traveling to the Tam and have 4 pieces of luggage. The charge will be $17 for the taxi plus $4 (2 x $2) for the extra luggage bringing the total to $21.
