I actually had a car stolen in Aruba about 5 years ago. I did not take the extra insurance. Although the cost of the stolen car ($6000) was put on my credit card, the credit card insurance covered the entire cost of the stolen vehicle. I did have to pay the 6K to the credit card company, but they reimbersed me the entire amount. On the plus side, I got 6K extra airline miles on my card.

danny you may have to contact AMEX with particular questions.
make sure you get the name of the person you speak with
make sure they are looking in the INTERNATIONAL category.
make sure you are specific in your questions.
when renting a car....INSPECT IT, inside and out, make a note of every mark, dent and then take your own pictures of the car before driving it away, I just got a bill for "damage" to a car, that was posted to my credit card after I left the island, I was never informed of this charge, until I called my credit card to find out about the EXTRA charges that had been posted...so beware and be careful when renting from royal car rental!!!
Agree...recently checked out the details for AMEX coverage...and it almost seems to be too good to be true. We will be signing up before our next visit!
Our Capital One card has car insurance on it, also it doesn't charge extra for out of the country charges!
Thanks for that recommendation, Lisa! I just enrolled, very easily, and the coverage looks great.
It states that coverage is worldwide except for a handful of countries, of which Aruba was not included. Therefore, all good! Saves me 20-27 dollars!
