Our issue is the vehicles are "never" like the picture when you receive your confirmation. We reserved a small jeep like (Suzuki) and instead received a Yaris (much older model) and another year we reserved a newer Yaris and instead received a much older model. The big problem is the older vehicles simply do not have the newer (although) basic amenities so you wind up with very basic and I do mean basic transportation. Anyway, from the forum we have read plenty of reviews of other companies so we will give them a shot.
Good to know about your recent experience and it sounds like Budget has gone downhill. I am in the process of reserving for July and will definitely look elsewhere. Hertz has always been very reliable too but can be pricey. Maybe I'll try Hans and see if he has something comfortable for 6 people.

I recommend ACE Car Rental--Adolf and his staff are friendly, honest and accomodating. STAY AWAY FROM American Car rental--they will rip you off. Louise Lufkin

We had similar experiences with Budget and switched to Payless/Optima

I would use Hans as my first choice always. Then I guess I would ask for recommendations for my 2nd choice if Hans was not availabe. Hans cars are in great shape and very clean.

    Rental Car

Hi everyone! Well headed to Paradise for two weeks in May. The problem: rental car fees are insane!!! Don't know what to do. We really loving having a car to buzz around, but they are anywhere from $400 - $1000 for the stay. Does anyone have any ideas? I always went with National, but now they're off the charts! Any help would be appreciated. (Florida has Rent a Wreck, which was great, but not international.) Thanks!

Remember, the cheapest price is not always the BEST vehicle.

With that said, if you are interested solely in price, shop around. I know Amigo and Royal are both offering discounts in May. Pricing is the same as it was in 2008 and 2009.

    There are resources listed at

    car rental agency listing

Good luck and let us know how you made out.
