car rentals + tips on directions
so, we finally caved in and booked a week at the ren for the 1st week of june. as we'll be by ourselves without our kids, we decided we can perhaps explore the island more freely this time around without any worries. with that said, i'm reluctant to even drive as we would be completely lost for sure.
any suggestions/help on directions and etc to the major points of interest on the island? the major roads, etc??? also, is hertz is the cheapest? they have rates for $35/day..... |

We always used Tropic Car Rental. The owner is hans and a very trusworthy person.. He meets you at the airport and takes you to the car. When leaving, he also meets at departures to pick up the car. He only rents the Toyota Yaris. His rates are reasonable & he takes great care of his cars.
I believe this is his e-mail: tropiccarrent@setarnet.aw As for getting around Aruba, we use the map in the back of the "Aruba Experience".

Recent car rental experience
We rented with Royal Aruba. The price for a Hyundai Sonata was less than $200 for the week. They met us at the airport. When we dropped the car off, the office was closed, but they showed up within 10 minutes to take us back to the airport after a call.
As to driving, it's pretty easy to get to most of the sights and restaurants. If you are not used to traffic circles, be forewarned! Not everyone in the circle signals their intentions, so enter cautiously. Otherwise, it's a very easy place to drive. |

Aruba Driving Tour: South End of the Island
Aruba Driving Tour: North End of the Island Our rental from Amigo http://www.amigocar.com/last year was excellent. Our last experence with Hertz we had a real junker of a vehicle AND the license plate was held on with a garbage bag tie.

We always book Alamo through vacaionoutlet dot com. They have up to 25% discount and coupons for additional $$ off. They also have other car rental companies, like Budget & Thrifty.
As a matter of fact, I just booked a mid-size car with Alamo through vacation outlet for a week in August and with all taxes and fees it came to a grand total of $159!!! I think that is the same price I paid through them last year. Good Luck! 88 days and counting!
