Are car seats required in cabs?

Can anyone tell me if taxis require young passengers (age 3 in my case) to be restrained in a car seat? We are going to Aruba in June and had planned to use taxi to get around the island (to/fron airport and to/from dinner). Our thought was that we would have our daughter in the backseat with us and we would restrain her but wasnt sure if that was allowed on the island.

yes kids/toddlers can ride in cabs without being in car seats.
that being said, are you bringing a booster seat for the plane?
you could use that in the cab.

You are pretty much free to do whatever you wish. No child seat or even seatbelt requirements....but every car/taxi I've been in has had seatbelts.

No helmet laws either - basically "anything goes"! It is kinda scarey when you see cars packed w/ kids - babies on passenger's laps in the front!

while it's true that such lack of restraints and protection is scary, we have to remember that their roads are too narrow and congested that high speed accidents are pretty rare - this is not to say that the cabs don't drive like their on a highway....

the roads are also pretty much unpaved within the inner circles of the residential parts that further deters speeding...

also, aruba doesn't have any highways/thruways/etc...

so i guess the lack of protection is somewhat mitigated?

Just for the record, most booster seats aren't legal for airline use.

Aruba tends to be quite lax about these things. A lot of people get away without wearing seatbelts. Doubt if you would get any issues. Its something you should do anyway out of your own interest in your family's safety.

By the law "seatbelts" are obligatory in the front seats, in the back it's optional.
I demand from every passenger sitting in the front with me to wear them.
Seldom do I find opposition from passengers , if they don't want to wear it then I politely ask them if they would'nt mind to sit in the back.
I don't accept baby's or toddlers sitting in front on their parents lap, they have to be in the back, safety comes first.
Unfortunatelly I've noticed over the years a great deal of negligence on the part of fellow drivers into complying with the seatbelt law.
Don't like to generalise but most don't comply with this.
I consider it very important for you never know how the insurance companies will react in case an accident happen and the passenger in front has'nt been informed properly.
I do "Stricktly" abide by the rules.
Baby seats are welcome if the passenger so desires.
In the future helmets would also become "obligatory" on the a.t.v.'s, they're working on it.

Like a lot of you, I can remember the times in my life when the concept of seat belts, let alone a car seat was, well, laughable. As many a comedian has said, I can recall laying on the back deck of the car on the ride down 41 heading into Florida. At any rate, as for traffic accidents on the island... what we haven't seen hasn't affected us.
The stuff happens, and it happens more than we lucky tourists might imagine.

Take a quick peek on this site, mostly news reports, lots of crash photos, so be careful where you wander.

Put on your seat belt, strap in the little ones, wear a helmet if you ride (I KNOW how great the temptation is... believe me)

And mostly, be safe and have a wonderful time in paradise...
with any luck, I'll just have to wait until October to get back there...
