Check your insurance!

We had our rental car stolen on Monday from in front of our apartment hotel, despite the fact the wheel lock was on! Then we discovered our credit card insurance did not cover rental car theft in Aruba; in North America, yes, but in Aruba, no. What a nightmare! We have advised several others at this apt hotel who have subsequently phoned their insurance agents and found the same small print exists on their policies. Make sure you buy that extra insurance offered by the rental firm.

Apparently, we are liable for the total cost of the car. Help! Does anyone know more?

We are at the SeaBreeze apartments, but we've heard that rental cars have been stolen from luxury hotels with security guards on duty. Apparently, the cars are stolen and stripped for their parts. We received very little sympathy from Amigo Car Rental, who told us that this was their fourth car stolen this year.

If you rented with your Amex card then they could possibly cover you. I know if I rent a car with my Amex car that I'm covered anywhere in the world that I rent.

There is a thread about an Amigo car being stolen at:

The renters ended up paying. I wish you the best of luck with this situation. And appreciate the warning to others.

also too
is it really necessary to give your car rental the name of the resort where you are staying?
(disclosure we always tell hans of tropic where we are) but for another agency...........you could always say "something else"

Read the fine PRINT of the insurance(also credit card). Most I've read say you are not covered if you go off road or if you are under the influence. Also a Police Report must be had.
