Getting to Flying Fishbone

I think I've settled on Flying Fishbone for our first dinner in Aruba (never eaten there before). I would like to make reservations but I'm having trouble figuring out what time. Our plane lands at 3:10pm and have no idea how long it would take for us to get through the airport, grab our car (Avis) and drive to the restaurant.

If anyone has a good guess I would appreciate it. (Wasn't sure if this post should be under transportation or culinary.)

are you planning on going directly from airport to flying fishbone?
if so, you will probably get there before 5p or so and i do not even think it is open that early. and it will hot sitting there by the water in the sun.

from wheels down to exiting the airport could take anywhere from 20 minutes to maybe 45 min or an hr. (in over 35 visits, it only took us an hour once....and that was the time OJ Simpson was in line directly in front of us at immigration...but that is another story and it was a Saturday in the Winter.)

add in another 20 min for AVIS car rental

the ride from airport to FF is about 20 minutes.

my suggestion is to save FF for not your first night on aruba.
you might be exhausted.

or if you are convinced you really want to go there on night 1, i suggest checking in to your resort, getting settled and plan on FF by 6:30.

I was originally thinking of going after checking in to CDM but when I realized the restaurant was just South of the airport I started thinking, "why drive back and forth?" My plan is to only get the rental for one day, so we can get groceries on Sun. For the rest of the week we will use bus or taxi. Flying Fishbone would cost us the most in taxi fare, so that's why I thought we should enjoy it when we have the car.

Of course I want to experience the full ambiance of the location and not roast in the sun. So I will take your suggestion Andrea and book for 6:30. How long does it take to drive from CDM to FF?

CDM to FF w/out traffic is approx 25 to 35 minutes.
w/out traffic we can make it from lacabana (1/2 mile beyond CDM) to Baby Beach in 35 min.

If you can get on the road from CDM by 5:45 from the CDM you will be golden!!

When do you arrive?

Do you arrive at 3:10 on a Sunday? Most grocery stores will be closed at that time on Sunday. Kong Fui, located on Palm Beach Rd., is the only large one in the area that I know of that will be open later on Sunday. Just something to keep in mind....

Or do you arrive on Saturday and plan on getting groceries Sunday morning?

Andrea, we're supposed to arrive Sat at 3:10.
Amy, it's good to know that the stores close early on Sun. I wanted to have Sun brunch at Matthew's and then go shopping. I'm thinking we will shop at Ling's so I will check their hours.
By renting through Avis we can return the car at Costa Linda Sun afternoon and walk back to CDM. (I'm an uber-planner. Have to do it now before I start my student-teaching internship in Sept.)
