getting to natural bridge, alto vista, gold mine, etc...

can you get to those places from paved road?

can you follow the directions below using a regular SUV - i.e. honda crv? or do you really need a 4x4?

From the lighthouse, off to the east you will see the well worn dirt trail which you can follow along the coastline towards the south to get you to the Alto Vista Chapel, Bushiribana Gold Smelter Ruins, the beach at Boca Mahos and following the path, ultimately, the remains of the former Natural Bridge.

No 4 x 4 required. Haven't seen the road conditions in awhile, but last time we were over there you could tackle it by car as well. An SUV, in my mind is perfect. More comfortable going over some of the ruts.

just took that path the other day - perfect! You can get to alto vista by paved road also. There is no marking to tell you where Alto Vista is by the dirt trail - you will see it from afar and just take a right up a dirt path that doesn't seem to lead anywhere. We were in a Jeep Wrangler, some spots were a little rough, but nothing like the Natural Pool roads.

when you say some parts were rough with your wrangler, do you think a small suv will suffice? i can't remember if any part of that road has rocks or small hills you need to climb up. surely, i don't want to be left with a flat tire or stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Question Natural bridge?

Didn't the natural bridge collapse? I thought I read that somewhere on this site, although I could certainly be mistaken...

Yes, sure did on 9/2/2005

There is a small bridge adjacent

There is also a "baby" bridge between the lighthouse and the collapsed natural bridge.

Just that there are some spots that are rocky and you have to be careful not to trash the undercarriage of the vehicle. Originally we were supposed to be using a 4 door SUV thing, but it seemed way too low to the ground. Glad we went with the wrangler from another company

I've never noticed that trail at the lighthouse before, I may put that on the list for the next trip
