Has the trail improved to the Natural pool?? When went two years ago it was bad. Last year my daughter was told that no jeep tours went there anymore due to the bad conditons of the terrain.

We did the ABC tour to the natural pool two years ago and drove out back in March. The road is terrible, but you can get there if you take your time and pick your way.

is it worth even trying with an suv or should we stick with the guided tours? im afraid of either getting lost, stuck, or have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. can one reasonable expect to find their way around?

I wouldn't go with anything less than a full sized Jeep. If you get something that isn't at least as off-road capable as a stock Jeep, don't drive there. If you know how to drive off road and pick your line, you will be fine. You have to see where the trail is and then pick your line through the hazards. My concern is usually with the undercarriage than it is with getting a flat tire.

I totally agree...and DO NOT listen to the car rental companies that tell you this 4 door suzuki SUV will be just fine I can't imagine making it there without some serious undercarriage damage to a low vehicle like that.

A couple of the rental agencies forbid taking their vehicles to the natural pool. I know it was in the contract of at least one or two that I've used in the past. Like you said though, a lot of them really couldn't make it anyway.

Since the collapse, do you think it is still worthwhile going there?

I love that side of the island, so my answer would always be yes. There is still the "mini bridge" and the tourist trap souvenir stand there as well.

personally I still think it's an awesome site to check out and so is the gold mine ruin. If you go from the lighthouse you get to see the undeveloped land that holds it's own beauty and the colors are amazing. There are the mini natural bridges - definately worth it IMO
