You may want to rent a car for a day or two to explore the island. I think it depends on where you stay and how you like to spend your day. We have never found it necessary but we are beach people and stay at an all inclusive. Our first few trips we were so content we never left the resort. If you stay in the high rise area there are many restaurants within walking distances. The bus systems is good and taxis are plentiful. You can take a jeep tour or hire a taxi for a tour of the island and go at your own pace. If you have plans to head out to baby beach or Zeerovers you would want to have a car. As for who to rent from I'm sure someone will post. There seems to be some favorites on the island.
Thank you for you're reply. I'm glad you wrote the name of that restaurant, I thought it was Deeserover. That would have made for a difficult find, if you didn't state it correctly for me.
We also are staying at a optional all inclusive. I looked up some rental places and think I am good with that now. I decided that maybe the last week we will rent a vehicle and explore. My wife likes the Pool and beach. I just like being off from work. We have stayed on the island before. Our last timeshare trade was at the Renaissance.
I just wanted to introduce ourselves to the forum and join in on the conversation. We love Aruba, the people and the restaurants. How far ahead do people book restaurants? My wife has her favorites .. which I'm sure will need advanced planning.
Everyone is different of course. I personally always rent a car for the entire trip. Control freak? Maybe - lol - but I like to have the freedom of having a car. There may be a day or two during our two weeks that the car sits in the lot untouched, but I like that I can just get in the car & go if I need to. We always go to Baby Beach once or twice during our stay, the old Natural Bridge, and have gone to DePalm Island a few times and I like freedom of going places at my own pace. Prices are very reasonable on the island. I rent from Aruba Royal and have never had problem with them. There are many rental agencies to choose from.
We usually rent from Tropic Car Rental. Hans is very easy to work with and has good prices. We don't stay at an all-inclusive so we dine out each night and save leftovers for lunch the next day. We have some favorite restaurants, but love trying new places also. Good luck--I know you'll enjoy yourselves!
Eagle Beach, Baby Beach, Arashi Beach Tierra Del Sol golf course
We are like Jacki and Andrea. we rent for the entire trip. Really depends on what you plan to do. We also go to Baby Beach, Arashi and Malmok to snorkel. Go to dinner almost every night and hit different casinos in the evening. Wife is a shopper as well. We figure that we would probably spend more money on cabs for transportation than on a rental car. Even if you are just taking a cab to a restaurant it might be $10 but that is one way without tip, plus the wait time. Just more convenient for our style. We met a couple on our second trip that had stayed at the Divi AI for 12 years and never left the resort. Different strokes for different folks.
