What are your travel dates? You can pick up Alamo at the airport....$299 for a compact or $332.26 for a midsize. Use id 7014182 and Rate Code YQ. That's still expensive but Alamo ups their prices the closer you are to the date you need.

I believe Hans only has compact Toyota Yaris cars...

We have had good experiences with http://www.amigocar.com/models_rates.html

They must charge a 10% concession fee for airport pickups, but if you want to save the fee, they will drop off and pick up the car at your resort.

I know i'm a broken record here but:

1. Stay away from Yaris' - they are the most stolen cars on the island
2. Check w/ your cc for theft - most companies do not offer that
insurance (have not heard of any but might be wrong). Know that AMEX
has had good feedback on their insurance and it's really affordable
3. Most contracts have "off road" clauses that say you aren't covered if
you are going off road. A lot of roads here are made of dirt or
really rugged - so if you are intending on really exploring the island
might consider a jeep. It's well worth it because the "windy" side of
the island is awesome!

I know someone who rented from Amigoe and had their car stolen.
It was a very bad situation. The person did not have theft coverage -
he was actually threatened that he could not leave the island until
the "matter was settled" (meaning paying for the car) or if he filed
a lawsuit. This guy had the advantage that he spoke dutch which
is the legal language of the island and the attorney advised him
just to pay the guy off because there was no 100% that he would
win the lawsuit and lawyers fees get very high here. And yes -
the car was a white yaris - the most stolen car on the island.
They strip them for parts.

No disrespect Lisa - but this was my next door neighbor. I know
this firsthand. Not a rumor.

No problem, everyone has a story. Whether it be car rental, restaurant, excursion...
I have always been a firm believer that everyone needs to find out for themselves.
If I was afraid of everything I read before our first stay at the Tamarijn we would have never stayed there.

As a disclaimer, we do not plan on renting a car at all on our next trip because of traveling with 10 - 13 people, up to 6 teens, the cost of a vehicle, as well as dining off property is just too costly.

Nothing like a bunch of tapas with a nice cold Amstel Bright!

So if you purchase the additional insurance for the rental vehicles offered by the rental companies it does not cover thieft? Is this correct?
