Anyone know if you have to pay at the Renaissance Ocean Suites parking lot if you are staying there? Is it owned by the Ren or the government? Are all the parking lots government owned?

I wished there were some info in English!

I "think" (not sure about it) that those parking meters will be in effect from Monday, 7 Sept, in effect.

As I understand, there is a 15 minute grace period. After that, AFL 75 will be fined.

If the parking ticket has expired for 3 hours (or more), the vehicle will be towed (or just bracket attached to a wheel) and there is a AFL 150 fine.

I mean some days we may not use the car at all it makes me rethink renting a car. This will not only make people think twice about coming downtown but also make Renaissance guest think twice about renting a car.
Yeah 2 florins doesn't sound like much if you are going into town for a specific reason like a restaurant you like or a shop you like but if you have to pay $1.12 an hour just to park your rental car at your hotel it would be quite an expense. MAYBE the government should not charge rental vehicles.

There are a couple of restaurants downtown that we like but I am not sure I will want to risk a $75 or $150 ticket just to eat there. Besides, how enjoyable would it be to take your time having a nice meal with friends while in the back of your mind you are worried about your parking ticket expiring. We go to Seaport and Crystal casino now and then as well but who wants to pay parking to gamble? We also have a lot of restaurants and casinos NOT downtown that we like where the parking is free. We only are there for 11-14 days a year so not going downtown would not be a concern.

Here's your answer....from a member of our Renn FB page who is there NOW

    Here is your answer:
If you are a guest of the Renaissance you MUST park in the Renaissance parking lot.
Parking for Renaissance guests is free for your stay. The strip of parking in front of the marina is NOT a Renaissance Parking Lot. Effective yesterday, Sept 1st, 2015 the parking fee in this lot is 2Afl/hour.
This means that regardless of which side you are staying - your free parking is available only at the Ocean Suites parking lots.
I expect in the coming months they will implement a key-card entry system to the lots so that the lots are used for Renaissance only guests.
    Bon Tardi!

I have been looking for an article in English but couldn't find one.

However, there is an article (in Papiamento) with lots of info.
I hope that in the next few days some info in English will be provided for the many tourists who come to Aruba!

And this one (again in Papiamento). I'm under the impression that the first parking meter has been in operation since Sept 1 but that to parking meter project in downtown will be in full swing by Sept 7. JMO.

    "Fast, Fair & Always There!"

Watch out for the towing truck, they are getting busy!

As the article is in Papiamento, I can only guess what it's about.
