    Rent a car verses taxis

    Hi all

heading back to Aruba soon. We usually just rely on taxis and have never rented a car. Considering renting this year but have questions and wondering what's others who rented before have for advice. What is a good car rental company? Is parking available at all beaches? Is it easy to get around the island? Just looking to rent a compact car, no off reading for us. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

welcome to the aruba.com community forum

check out this link for car rental companies
    http://www.aruba.com/search/site/car%20rental

    lots of us have favorites.
my husband and i like tropic and we have rented from others too and have no complaints

plenty of parking at surfside beach, eagle beach, druif, arashi, .....there is parking at palm beach, however you may have to use a pay lot.

getting around on the island by car is pretty easy.
it is sometimes an adventure, getting lost is usually fun
being lost does not last too long.

    again, welcome!

Thank you for your reply. I was just looking at Tropic website. Good to know someone who has been to Aruba so many times has used them and likes them. Is it easy to find parking in general? I hear there are meters. I never noticed them but then I was not driving. Are meters everywhere? I saw the arubaparking link that talks about using smart cards. But not where to get one. Do you get the CDW coverage? So sorry for all the questions. I just want to be prepared. Thanks again . Can't wait to get there. We have been away five years too long.

    you are most welcome

it is pretty easy to find free parking spaces.
if you are downtown there are free spaces behind the seaport marketplace for folks using the casino and for marketplace shopping.

we have never paid to park, except at the airport.

look around here in the "getting around aruba" as there are threads that talk about the parking meters.
be aware that they have stopped "booting"

we do not get the CDW as our credit card covers us.
please check with your credit card company as some do not cover international rental insurance.

    no sorry necessary.
having questions, making comments and general chatter is whaat this forum is all about.

We always rent a car for the duration of our stay. It allows us to see so much more of the island. We always use Wheels2Go. Ricky and Anky do a great job!

Thanks for the great information and tips! This year we want to go and explore more and a car seemed the best option. I just cannot wait to get on the plane! Can a car be used to explore the east side of the island or is that all off roads over there? On our honeymoon back in 1993, we rode horses over to the natural pool. It was rough terrain which the Andalusian horses handled with ease. We still ride but since my bones no longer handle racking horses so well anymore we are opting for four wheels instead of four legs

I am an experienced rider and never, would ride on the real rough terrain to the natural pool.
I am a huge chicken and am terrified of falling.

We always rent a car-pretty much everywhere we travel including Europe. Aruba is easy to navigate and parking is easy most places. Just follow the trees to bring you back to the hotel areas if you get lost. When you rent you can explore at your leisure when and wherever you want. You are not dependent on anyone. We always have fun exploring and even sometimes getting lost can be fun. We have found some the best place when we got lost. You can always download an app to help with navigation.

Andrea you sound like a blast. Would love to meet you one day. It's always fun talking to another rider. I've owned and have been around horses most of my life. Trail riding is my favorite. The harder the terrain the better. My hips don't like me when I ride these days. Anyway thanks to all for the advice and tips. Greatly appreciated. Will post with updates when we get to there.
