    Thinking as a car thief..............

I got an email from a forum member asking if it would be wise to bring her "club" to Aruba to use on her rental vehicle?
Her rental car will also have an alarm.

I have not replied to her yet as I haven't a clue.
I will direct her to this thread to read what you all have to say.

    Is a club a deterrent?

Too bad one cannot leave rottweilers in a car (too hot, i know)

I wouldn't bother. The Club is easily removed so it would be wasted space in luggage. I think it was NBC's "Dateline" that showed how easy it was to bypass The Club in fifteen seconds . I would make sure insurance covers theft instead - a professional car thief is going to get your car no matter what.

I agree. I don't think the Club is worth carting it to Aruba. Of course, I've never had an issue with a rental car being stolen so the need to have some type of deterrent never crossed my mind. I would suggest contacting the credit card company she plans to put the car on and see what their policy is with regard to stolen vehicles.

We usually rent a jeep and fortunately have never had a problem. Although, we never leave anything in it.

If someone is going to steal an automobile in Aruba, where are they going to go? I don't think a thief could get it off the island with no title, and I always figured someone would see it eventually.

the thieves do not take the vehicles off the island

    they take the parts!!

why are some folks "nervous" about asking a question here on the forum?
i asked this question for someone that messaged me.

    it is puzzling

Maybe they feel it is a "stupid" question, although we all know there are no stupid questions!

We rent from Royal, the crappy condition of their Jeeps is a pretty decent theft deterrent. Probably can't even resell those parts.... God bless em.

Met a couple at the owners meeting at Surf Club this past September whose car was stolen while they were eating at Barneys. But don't let that keep you from eating there! The guy said he was one of those folks that always buys the extra insurance and it was finally worth it.

If I am thinking as a car thief, my first thought would be how can I get away with stealing a car on an island 19 miles long and 7 miles wide where everybody knows everybody?
