we always rent-as soon as we arrive we pick up our yaris and enjoy it everyday to differnet beaches restaurants and of course shopping.we love the freedom of picking what restaurtant we choose to go to or what casino to visit. We also go food shopping and because we have a car it is a pleasure to jump in it and take off at anytime .I actually believe it is chearper in the long run to have a car than to take taxis, buses and have to wait around.

We rent a car for the 3 weeks we are there. I need wheels to go snorkling everyday. I can usually get a 4 door car for the 3 weeks for $500 total with all taxes. When you do the math it pays for itself. You figure a taxi to and from the airport and then evenings. When you are a snorkle freak like me, you have to have wheels!!!

We also rent a vehicle, although I "rough-it" and get the cheapest suv I can get my hands on...and of course off goes the top as soon as we get it, so not air, just wind in your face and sun on your head !!!! I promise my husband every year I will rent a air conditioned car the next time we go, but since I make all the reservations he gets what I rent !!!
It is nice to go out to NB and enjoy the wind in your face, wave to everybody and get some sun while doing it.....can't wait>>>> |

It might also depend on how long you stay on the island. When we used to stay for 7 days, a 1-3 day car rental to go exploring was plenty. Now that we stay for 2+ weeks, we definitely need a car to do other things because I couldn't stay on the beach every day for 17 days.......

Fourth trip and haven't rented a car yet. At home drive to work everyday and before the trip 3 hour drive to airport to get the flight to Aruba so no interest in driving on vacation. Each year we usualy take a different tour of the island with Depalm for sight seeing or things away form the Divi Links. When we venture out to dinners or shopping we have found the bus service is very good and if that doesn' suite us a taxi works fine.

At least six trips without a car and never had a need. Cheap bus service and honest cabbies make it possible to save on car rental. More visitors=more traffic=more accidents.

The first time we were there we rented a car for three days and a scooter for one (there wasn't nearly as much traffic than). Now like Danadog, we always the cheapest 4x4 and no air...top down all week. We also stay in Malmok, so we need a car...I think next time we would split our week though between a 4X4 and a car to save on gas a little. But we love to snorkel and just explore and get lost...which we inevitably do every time we are in Aruba..haha....
