The Old Windmill, the long-gone Spritzer and Furhrmann store, certain stones along the beach, anything to do with the old Aruba Caribbean Hotel. What a child remembers. Taps for the natural bridge.

More images from the first years of the Aruba Caribbean Hotel:
Radisson History/Old photos-gene-berry-henry-steeber-managers-new-aruba-caribbean-1960.jpgHere's Mr. Gene Berry (the man who brought my father to Aruba from Dayton) sometime in 1960. The hotel is brand-new.Radisson History/Old photos-aruba-caribbean-suite-1963.jpgRadisson History/Old photos-aruba-caribbean-suite-1963_02.jpgRadisson History/Old photos-aruba-caribbean-suite-1963_03.jpgThree pictures of our suite at the hotel, taken around 1963. This was 101 or 102, I think.Radisson History/Old photos-henry-steeber-new-ach-manager.jpg A publicity contact print of my father in front of his new charge - the Aruba Caribbean Hotel. Henry C. Steeber was a refugee from Europe who had lived in NY for seven years before finding a good hotel job in Dayton, Ohio, where he found the connection to Aruba.

Radisson History/Old photos-terrace-new-aruba-caribbean-hotel-1960.jpg A pristine new hotel. This view looks past the coffee shop toward the Space-Age-looking Klompen Club. This is about 1960.

Thanks for all the great pictures, it's almost like traveling back in time.
Loved looking at the furniture and the decoration of the rooms as well as the entire style of the hotel.

Just to add to the effort, I'm going to open up another thread called Aruba Early 1960's (for clarity) and share some of my father and mother's photography. My father, while having a little spare time from managing the Aruba Caribbean, pursued his skill (professionally-trained) as a photographer. What an ideal place to pursue it!

I definitely look forward to those photos. I'm not a professional photographer but took thousands on photos while on vacation. Some of my friends would tease me if there were still some motives to take pictures of. LOL. But YES, there is so much beauty to capture. I never get tired of.

I'll check out your other threads. Please keep those photos coming, I love them all.

Well, here are more images of hotel and Aruba souvenirs.
    First - these drinking glasses:

    Radisson History/Old photos-pan-am-glasses.jpg

The glasses are imprinted with the 12 signs of the zodiac (in gold leaf) and the words "Souvenir of Pan Am Inaugural Flights- New York/Aruba and Aruba/New York - April 1964...First Jet Service to the little Dutch Isle - Caribbean Style"

    Then

    Radisson History/Old photos-aruba-caribbean-hotel-ashtray.jpg

This wonderful often-seen ashtray (and matches) from the first years of the Aruba Caribbean Hotel and Casino. The ashtray was manufactured in the U.S.A. by Royal China, Inc. The matches came from Diamond in Chicago.

The Aruba Caribbean Hotel was one of a number of Executive House properties, corporately managed from Chicago but always situated with a strong local management team. Personal relations were still very much at the front and center of the hotel and resort industry.

Belinda - the cat I replaced. This is in the first suite my parents occupied at the hotel. Note the famous (and often-troublesome) tile floors. I'll bet some of them are still down under the carpeting.
