    hahaha i like the cat
    the floor....not so much.

i think most of the hotels/resorts/timeshares now have ceramic tile floors...makes clean ups much easier.

    your photos are a treasure.

that thing is a HI FI record player ? we had one in our "playroom" when i was a child in the 60s.

Belinda - the cat I replaced. This is in the first suite my parents occupied at the hotel. Note the famous (and often-troublesome) tile floors. I'll bet some of them are still down under the carpeting.[/QUOTE]

The Old Windmill, the long-gone Spritzer and Furhrmann store, certain stones along the beach, anything to do with the old Aruba Caribbean Hotel. What a child remembers. Taps for the natural bridge.

I know my dad had a lot of problems with that particular tile reacting to the salt air. It aged fast, as you can probably see. She was a nice cat; I was able to visit her at someone's house, later on, after I'd replaced her. The stereo, actually (which looks like a HiFi) was my first source of recorded music. I used to place my ear on the speaker. Lovely simple time!

Here's a wonderful shot depicting Aruba Caribbean Hotel life in the early 1960's. This buffet was created, in part, by the Swiss chef (Bruno, I'm fairly sure) standing behind the swordfish. I later met him in New York in 1985, working in the same capacity at the Four Seasons restaurant. My father, Mr. Steeber, had hired him and Seppi - another Swiss (a sous chef at the time) who also ended up manning the Four Seasons.

Here's our suite at the hotel. The stuffed animal confirms my existence in the world, which means this is roughly 1962. My mother - Louise Steeber - is at left. I don't know who her friend is. I can recall watching many happy sundowns from that very table.

Views from the pool deck and one shot looking West from the still-new Aruba Caribbean Hotel, circa 1962. I'm wondering how much that view East has changed. My directional dyslexia made the label 'West'. It is actually a view East.

Our Aruba Caribbean trio - my mother Louise, father Henry, and me (James, since I was 10) in 1966, near the end of our stay. I'd love to know who the photographer was. Fine stuff.

We all had great shades - true. Mine actually had a radio in them. Thanks a lot. I'm hoping someone here and there might even remember them/us.
